I guess you can say that I’m a long time fan! HA! When Jen announced that One Thimble was coming back, I couldn’t even wait to see what was in store for this fantastic e-zine. Brooke Smith, of Idle Sunshine, put together another fantastic blog tour and of course I had to participate! Let’s take a look at what I sewed up…

The Pattern

The new release of One Thimble includes a few new sewing patterns but in the re-vamp they also decided to include pattern hacks for releases that were featured in previous editions. The Miss Olivia Dress by One Puddle Lane full pattern is available in her shop if you don’t already own it but originally released in Issue 16. The original design was a maxi dress, with a beautiful faux wrap front, elastic waist, side seam pockets and two sleeve options. The pattern is available in sizes 2-16 US/ 6-20 AU.

The Hack

OT Issue 21 shows you how to hack the Miss Olivia Dress into a dolman sleeve with a knee length skirt. The tutorial gives you step by step instructions on how to take the original bodice and extend a dolman style sleeve. The tutorial also shows you how to use the previous skirt pattern piece to shorten into a knee length instead of a maxi length. The best part is you can apply this hack to almost any pattern to create a dolman sleeve and shorter skirt!!

The Fabric

The Miss Olivia Dress recommends that you use soft rayons or similar woven fabrics. Since we’re heading into fall here in the US, I was hoping to make the Miss Olivia in a fall-friendly fabric. I headed to our local Hobby Lobby (since we moved into the middle of nowhere and that’s my only fabric store option within an hour drive)…but unfortunately there were no fall colored rayon or similar wovens. However, I found this incredible stretch velvet that had beautiful drape, was lightweight and in the perfect fall color scheme!

The Finished Look

Finally the moment you’ve been waiting for…here is my Miss Olivia Dolman, Short Dress Hack! I hope you love it!! I had fun stying it for fall- the super popular felt hat and a pair of cute booties.
