The Snow Queen visits Hawaii

elsa2

For months on end, I have received messages and comments on the Lily Shine Boutique Facebook page in requests of an Elsa inspired dress. As I scrolled through my newsfeed I saw countless other shops doing their own take on the infamous Disney Snow Queen. And, of course, most of them were photos set in the great wintery outdoors. Roadblock. We don’t do snow out here on Oahu. It just isn’t gonna happen! So brainstorm after brainstorm and FINALLY the perfect design came to life. I am blessed and honored to have a creative mastermind and  photographer close by to consult with during the designing process. Hailey Faria of Hailey Faria Photography and I put our heads together to create this vision of Arendelle in the Springtime, after the thaw. The most stunning and perfect location was set and the dress was ready to go! This dress is no replica of the dress from the movie, but rather it is the summery sweet and playful design inspired by the original.

Since snow wasn’t an option, the location had to be reminiscent of Arendelle, yet appropriate for the design of the dress. The ruins we hiked to were not only breathtaking but fit the concept to a T. Moss covered rocks piled up on every corner, completely like the trolls in the movie! I literally squealed in excitement when I saw them!

The bodice was created to resemble the original dress in the film, with a sweetheart shape in the top and waist. Delicate iridescent lace detail along the bodice to tie into the cape fabric and add a girly touch.

Every little girl loves a good long cape, however most moms were requesting an everyday play version of the dress. After much thought and consideration, I created a completely removable sheer cape. The most glorious detail in the flower design, iridescent threads bursting from the fabric giving an iced effect to the material. It was as if the fabric was created JUST for this dress! What a find!!!

When keeping with the concept of the original dress, but with the modesty appropriate for young girls, I designed the skirt of the dress to have a petite slit, with an icey blue ruffle trim. I thought it made the dress more playful and sweet.

  1. I just have to say this…this is one of the most beautiful dresses I have seen! And the white lace removable shirt is a genius idea! Your story about where you hiked to find ‘the right’ picture is truly amazing and truly an artists tale! I don’t have my own children, but my niece, Jasmine would fall in LOVE with this dress if I showed it to her! Whether I win it or not, I WILL be buying this for my little PRINCESS!
And….We Love Elsa, Anna and Olaf, we can’t pick! LoL 🙂
Thank you so much for this opportunity! I am SO excited!

  2. my 3 year old favorite character is Olaf. her favorite thing to say from the movie is when he says “all good things, all good things” 🙂 so adorable!
